I have just returned from a midnight showing of the second part of the deathly hallows, that being the final Potter film in the franchise. We pick up straight away from where we were left off at the end of part one, and reminded how Voldemort took the Elder Wand from Dumbledore’s grave.
The film manages to keep it’s cool and does not rush through anything. The pace of it really is slowed down at times, just to make sure the audience does not miss anything. Also it has to be to ensure that the moments are not lost on the battle scenes. I have to admit that I was very impressed and pleased that they managed to keep a level of humour throughout the film, despite some scenes which are very sad. The balance worked out very nicely in my opinion.
As the story unfolds we follow as Harry must destroy the last of the horcrux’s in order for Lord Voldemort to be defeated. This is something that allows a little help from his friends in Ron, Hermione and Neville Longbottom. Which are all brilliant moments.
Throughout different scenes I found myself holding my breath, for two main reasons. The first was wondering if I was going to end up being disappointed and the second was when I realised how well that had done the scenes. The utter sadness and tragedy which occurs so close together is awful. We don’t get to mourn one characters passing before the next is taken away from us. But very realistic to what would happen in battle.
I was very happy with the way we eventually got to see Snape’s story and loved the way they had all of the memories grouped together in quite a long scene. I thought it was very fitting and filled with emotion as well. I will still not spoil it for those who have not read the books or seen the film yet.
The screening I attended was full and we were sitting 4 rows from the front! People were cheering and clapping throughout from the start until the credits rolled. Which I actually found quite a good experience in seeing the film, as that does not happen very often or should that be does not ever happen in my cinema.
The 3D was totally pointless for this film, I didn’t want to see it in 3D in the first place but had no choice as we wanted to go to the midnight screening. It has not changed my opinion on the film type, and it really added nothing to this film.
Overall I am very happy with the way they completed the film, yet very sad that is the last one we have to look forward to. It really is the end . . . and we all stuck with Harry!
